Subjects and skills that are included in PSAM analysis
To provide the most rigorous senior secondary insights available, our ATAR analysis platform uses assessment data for every subject.
This includes English, Mathematics, the separate sciences, Geography and Economics, as well as extension courses, VET courses and any other course that contributes to ATAR.
How our ATAR analysis platform works
PSAM takes your school’s senior-secondary student assessment data, applies the same scaling and calculation rules used in ATAR determination, and produces visual, interactive reports.
These reports allow you to drill down by subject, class, or cohort to uncover what’s driving performance, forecast future outcomes, and test the impact of potential changes.
Key reports that help you improve ATAR scores
The PSAM ATAR analysis platform provides many reports that allow a wide breadth of analysis of student assessment data.
These are some key reports that provide rich insights and help lift ATAR outcomes for your school.
Forecast ATAR outcomes with confidence
For schools testing with AAS at Year 10, PSAM now projects ATAR outcomes based on your school’s typical value-add, helping you anticipate cohort performance and plan targeted support early.

ATAR scaling is the process of adjusting raw subject scores so they can be fairly compared across different senior secondary courses.
Because some subjects attract stronger cohorts or are inherently more competitive, scaling adjusts the marks so a scaled score of 30 in one subject represents the same achievement level as a scaled 30 in another subject. This ensures that the combination of subjects a student takes doesn’t unfairly advantage or disadvantage them in their ATAR calculation.
As part of its analysis and reporting, PSAM does ATAR scaling automatically, giving you clear and actionable insights for each student.
While it’s very difficult to accurately predict students’ ATAR scores, you can use their current performance and known scaling patterns to produce forecasts.
These forecasts are based on historical data and typical scaling behaviour, giving a useful indication of likely results. However, final ATARs depend on actual exam outcomes, cohort performance and yearly variations in scaling, so any prediction should be treated as a strong guide, not a guarantee.
The PSAM platform helps schools turn their assessment data into actionable insights that can influence and improve ATAR outcomes. It does this by:
- Forecasting ATAR and scaled subject results so teachers and students know where to focus study and intervention before final exams.
- Clarifying how subject scaling affects results, helping students and leaders make informed decisions about subject choices and preparation strategies.
- Analysing performance at class, cohort and whole-school levels, so schools can target teaching strategies and curriculum planning where they’ll have the greatest impact
- Providing flexible reports and dashboards that highlight strengths and weaknesses in senior secondary performance, helping teachers prioritise instructional time and individual support.
In short, PSAM turns complex ATAR calculations and scaling data into clear, targeted insights that guide both teaching and learning improvements, contributing to stronger final results.
